Semi-Permanent Makeup

What is Semi Permanent Makeup?

It is a form of cosmetic tattooing that can last up to several years. Tiny dots of pure, hypo-allergenic pigment are inserted using a digital device into the outer layer skin to give an effect that mimics the appearance of natural hair strokes, perfectly defined eyeliner and balanced volumised lips infused with colour. Carried out by an experienced and talented technician using the best products the results can be truly outstanding, enhancing your natural beauty and bringing out your confident self.

Tattoo FAQ

Do I need a consultation?

A consultation is carried out on the day that covers shape, colour, size, aftercare and a run through of the treatment procedure

Who is Semi permanent makeup suitable for?

Anyone who would like to enhance their eyes will benefit from this treatment. However if you have heart conditions, are on blood thinners, have diabetes or are pregnant this treatment isn’t for you.

Will it hurt?

It is uncomfortable but it doesn’t hurt, you have the option to have a numbing cream but we encourage you to go workout if possible.

Touch ups

You receive a free touch up this must be taken within 8 weeks if it is not done within 8 weeks you wont be able to receive the free touch up. So we always recommend to please make book in advance.

Children

Unfortunately as much as we love children, our insurance will not cover us to have children in the room while tattooing.

Aftercare
You will receive full detailed instructions of aftercare which is so important to follow, if you do not follow the aftercare you will need 3rd/4th treatments and these will be chargeable. While healing you will need to avoid - saunas, steam rooms, swimming, sun exposure, sweat, moisturisers, cleansers and brow makeup.
You must not pick or touch your brows whilst they are healing, doing this will make them heal patchy.

The Prep

If you’ve ever hired a professional painter they will tell you that “it’s all in the prep”.  Professional painters know that they get the best results when they spend extra time sanding, filling holes, making sure edges are smooth and applying the right primer.  Well microblading/semi permnanent tattoo is very similar.  You will get much better results when you properly prep. It all starts with a good canvas! The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated. Here’s how to get your skin ready for the procedure.

Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before procedure
Do not tan two weeks prior or have a sunburnt face
Do not have any type of facial/peel 2 weeks prior to treatment
Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products one month prior to treatment
Do not work out the day of the procedure.
Do not have botox 3 weeks prior
Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinners)
Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor color deposit:
Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your tattoo
Do not consume coffee before your procedure
Do not take an aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood)

Now that you know what NOT to do, it’s time to share my secret recipe for amazing microblading results! I love a good acronym so here’s one to help you out, just think of:  A - W - M which stands for Absolutely Wonderful Make-up or better yet, Absorb, Wash, Moisturize!

The day of the treatment: Absorb
Gently blot the area with clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until oozing has stopped.  Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymph.

Days 1-5  Wash
GENTLY wash daily to remove bacteria and dead skin. (Don't worry....THIS DOES NOT REMOVE THE PIGMENT!)

Day 1.
Boil hot water, let it cool.
VERY Gently rub brows in direction of hair growth.
Pat dry.
Gently wash your eyebrows each morning and night with water. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the eyebrows. Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water. To dry, gently pat with a clean tissue. DO NOT use any cleansing products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or any exfoliants.
Pat with clean dry tissue to take off any excess.
Do this every 2 hours for the first day and once in the night.

Day 2.
Repeat above every 4 hours.

Day 3.
Repeat twice a day for 4 days. After day 3 just use gentle wipe with hands to cleanse no cotton wool, be EXTREMELY careful not to knock your scabs off. If you think washing will remove loose scabs don’t touch and just put oil on.

Then just grape seed oil twice a day to keep moisturised for a week.

Days 1-5 Moisturize
Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never put the ointment on a wet or damp tattoo.
AWM should have you covered, but here are some extra tips to help with a smooth and easy recovery:

Important Reminders
-Use a fresh pillowcase
-Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away, picking can cause scarring or loss of color
-No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
-Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week
-Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after procedure.  Wear a hat when outdoors.
-Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.
-Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
-Avoid swimming, lakes, hot tubs for the first 10 days
-Avoid topical makeup including sunscreen on the area, absolutely no brow powder.

DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area.

Important note about showering:

Limit your showers to 5 minutes so you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet at the very last end of the shower.  Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

You must follow every part of the aftercare. Emma will do everything in the salon to make sure you have perfect brows, the healing process and aftercare is completely up to you and how you look after your brows at home. Failing to follow every step of the aftercare could cause infection and can also mean the brow colour will not heal evenly and you will have to book further treatments which will be chargeable.

Remember, with the proper prep and aftercare routine you will have much better results with your microblading procedure. Don’t forget your new favourite acronym: AWM - Absorb, Wash, Moisturize!

Things to avoid after Semi permanent makeup

The aftercare procedure you follow post permanent makeup is essential and can have a huge impact on the healing process and longevity of the pigment. You can usually go about your daily routine immediately after your appointment, but some clients experience some swelling and redness which normally subsides within 48 hours.
However, there are factors that will affect the longevity of the pigment and therefore the longevity of your permanent makeup:

SKIN TYPE

Whether it is oily, dry or combination, your skin type will affect the healing process post treatment and in turn affect the longevity of your permanent makeup.

UV EXPOSURE

Exposure to UV Rays including the sun, sunbeds and even computer screens will impact on the longevity of your permanent makeup. Until your brows are completely healed ensure you avoid direct sunlight, wear an SPF every day and use other protectors including sunglasses and a hat.

CHLORINE

A dip in the pool may seem like a great idea in the heat, especially whist on holiday, but chlorine can affect your new brows. Avoid chlorine until your brows have completely healed and if you are unsure always consult with emma.

MAKEUP

Applying and removing your makeup immediately after having your brows done may impact on the longevity of the pigment. Avoid wearing makeup around the brow area and when removing makeup be careful when applying and removing so that you do not scratch, rub or wipe the brow. Try using a cotton bud to gently remove any makeup around the brow. Emma will show you how to do this.

WASHING

We all need to wash, but we probably wash our face without really thinking about it. You must be extremely careful after having your brows done, particularly during the healing process as the slightest scratch or knock will affect the healing process.

EXERCISE

Exercise is important for some and forms a part of their daily life. However, after having permanent makeup it is important to be careful as sweating or accidentally scratching the brow or lip can have a huge impact on the healing process.

BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Some beauty products, particularly anti-aging, may affect your permanent makeup healing process due to the product ingredients. Always ensure you avoid applying them to the brow or lip area. Other factors such as smoking and alcohol may impact on the longevity of your permanent makeup so just bear this in mind before and after having permanent makeup done.

Approximate Healing Schedule

Day  Effect
1       Bold colour, dramatic appearance, tender, slight bleeding.  Slight dishcarge
2       Eyebrows look very dark and appears thicker in texture.
3-4    Same as day 2 but a little lighter.
5       Starting to itch. You may use a toothpick to “poke” at the skin to relieve itching.
5-10  Flaky skin starts – peels from the outside edges first.  Skin may be itchy and color looks patchy
10     Colour finishes flaking off.  At this point, the colour appears too light with missing spots.  You may feel it is too light and that your skin did not take the colour well. Please be patient and color will even out as the skin “mends” back together.

14-21 Colour and definition returns, hairstrokes start to reappear and even out.
30      Healing is complete. All colour is healed within the skin. Eyebrows should look very natural and soft.
